After I finally made up my mind about the final song selection for this record (which was a nerve wrecking process to me), I wrote this folky tune about the life of Vincent van Gogh and decided to swap it for a song which was more darker in mood and much slower. In the period I’ve been working on this album, I became obsessed with the work and life of Van Gogh. Visiting all the places he lived and worked in the Netherlands and France. The fact that Van Gogh felt so much loneliness and did not receive any recognition during his lifetime is something I can relate to very strongly. I often felt (and often feel sometimes) that nobody gives a damn about what you’re doing. Walking in Van Gogh’s footsteps, I experienced the loneliness of the sower and discovered one more time that from sadness great creative output will arise. That is a bittersweet consolation. But it makes it all worthwhile.
